One day out of Calgary covers Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, then 75 minutes in the town of Banff with short stops at Surprise Corner and Bow Falls on the way back.
Updated 24 October 2026
The day runs 8-10 hours and starts from CAD 88, with pickup and drop-off in Calgary, Canmore or Banff and departures at 8:00 am, 9:15 am, 9:35 am and 9:45 am depending on your point. Admission fees, an air-conditioned vehicle and coffee or tea are included. The guide drives as well as guides, in English, and the operator holds special access to both lakes.
Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles all year. Only Parks Canada shuttles, licensed commercial operators, accessible-placard holders and Moraine Lake Lodge guests use it, which is why a licensed tour or a reserved shuttle seat is the practical way to that shoreline. The listing gives June 1 to October 13 as the Moraine Lake window; outside it the day goes to Johnston Canyon instead, and the canyon stop is listed from October 15 to June 1.
Distances are longer than the map suggests, and parking is the real bottleneck. Calgary International Airport to the park is about 130 km and a 90-minute drive, Lake Louise lies 62 km beyond the town of Banff, and the lakeshore lots fill extremely early in peak season and stay full all day. Parks Canada says the best way to see both lakes is by shuttle or Roam Public Transit rather than private car; on a day trip like this one the operator handles the driving and the drop-off at both lakes.
The Lake Louise sightseeing gondola is not part of this itinerary. It ran daily 9:00 am to 4:30 pm from June 5 to October 11, 2026, carries riders to 2,101 m and is scheduled to return in spring 2027, so treat it as a separate half-day ticket rather than something you squeeze into this day.
Pickup in Calgary, Canmore or Banff, an hour at each lake, free time on Banff Avenue and the two viewpoints above the Bow River. Admission fees, air-conditioned vehicle and coffee or tea are included; dates and departure times sit on the booking page.

Four other day trips cover similar ground, and the differences are the stop list and the starting point. The 2025 Winner itinerary runs up to 11 hours and keeps Johnston Canyon alongside both lakes; the Banff Calgary Canmore day trip is the lowest entry price at from CAD 79 and has the clearest fixed departure list for travellers already in Banff or Canmore; the two remaining options cost more and trade stops for a quieter vehicle or a longer 10.5-hour route north. All of them run as one-day returns, since there is no multi-day departure from Calgary here.
