A full day out of the city with an hour on the Lake Louise shoreline, an hour at Moraine Lake in season, and pickup from your Calgary hotel.
Updated 24 October 2026
Sixty minutes is the time allowed at Lake Louise, and it is enough for the part of the lake that matters most. The flat shoreline path starts in front of the Fairmont Chateau and runs along the water, and within the first stretch you reach the angle where Mount Victoria and its hanging Victoria Glacier sit directly above the lake. Lake Louise is 2.4 km long, about 70 m deep and sits at 1,731 m, so the far end and the teahouse trails stay out of reach on a day trip of this length.
Canoes on Lake Louise are run by the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, not by Parks Canada, and the season is June through October with the docks typically opening in mid-June. An hour on the shore does not stretch to a paddle plus the wait at the dock, so plan the stop around walking and photographs. From roughly mid-December the lake is frozen solid and the Chateau keeps a natural ice rink on it, lit for evening skating.
Pickup and drop-off in Calgary is included, which is the practical reason to take a tour out of the city rather than drive yourself. Calgary International Airport to the park is about 130 km and a 90-minute drive, the Lake Louise Lakeshore lots fill extremely early and stay full all day in peak season, and the lake is a further 4 km above Lake Louise village. Departures are set at 07:45, 09:00, 09:20 and 09:30 depending on your pickup point, with readiness 10 to 15 minutes before, and the vehicle leaves on the scheduled minute.
Moraine Lake access is included from June 1 to October 13, the window when the road is open to licensed commercial operators. Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles all year, so a licensed tour or a reserved Parks Canada shuttle is the only way to stand at that shore. Outside the window the itinerary swaps in Marble Canyon, with ice crampons handed out for the catwalks.
Group size is capped at 24 people. On the drive back the day takes in Banff Avenue for 75 minutes and a short sequence of viewpoints, so the lake stops are the fixed part of the schedule and the Banff stops shift with traffic.
Pickup and drop-off in Calgary, 60 minutes at Lake Louise, 60 minutes at Moraine Lake in season with the entrance fee and special access included, maximum 24 guests.

All of the days below reach Lake Louise, and the ones that run in season reach Moraine Lake too; what changes is the extra stops, the group size and the length of the day. This page's tour pairs a full hour at each lake with the Banff viewpoints and caps the group at 24 people, the day trip from Banff, Calgary and Canmore has the lower entry price at CAD 79, the Yoho version adds Emerald Lake and a second national park across 8 to 11 hours, and the return shuttle covers the two lakes in about 5 hours.
The figures below come from the operator listings and change with the date you pick. Compare the tours on the booking page to see which departures are open.
